A few years ago we wrote a story on conference calling, a feature that helps you talk to several people at once, regardless of their location. While this is something that’s primarily been attributed to businesses and corporations, there are ways that individuals can start to use conference calls, and without having to buy any expensive equipment or even a new phone. Teleconferencing has reached a new era, and it’s now so accessible and easy to use, that anyone can do it, and thanks to Telecommunications Company, Powwownow, who have made it even simpler to keep in touch with the people that matter with their free conference calls service.
There are many companies that offer conference calls, but with Powwownow, you opt to go for a free conference call or a low-cost one that only charges you for the cost of the call, meaning that contracts and fees are non-existent, which is perfect if you only use conference calling every once in a while. With Powwownow, there is no limit on the length of your conference call, and you also don’t need to pre-book your conference call. Users are issued with a PIN, that can be used to log into conference calls, and they can log in from any telecommunications device, from a landline phone, to Skype, it’s just like any other call, except that you’re talking to many people at one time instead of just one.
Personalisation is also a great selling point of the Powwownow’s conference call service, with users able to choose from a range of on-hold music and other call settings and call recordings, which are a good idea for businesses. If you need to call lots of people at o0nce, check out Powwownow for free and cheap teleconferencing.
New on-screen keyboard. The standard keyboard has been greatly improved in Android 2.3, with faster input and more intuitive typing. Even cut-and-paste got a makeover.
Streamlined user interface. New color schemes and various UI changes and polish make Android more consistent and simpler to use.
Application and power management. Android 2.3 provides better insight into what is running in the background, how much memory and CPU time it is using, and even lets you kill misbehaving apps. Yes, after months of telling us we don’t need a task killer, they give us a task killer. Enjoy your chuckle, iPhone fans.
SIP Internet calling. Voice over IP is integrated directly into Android 2.3. Unfortunately you’ll have to get a SIP account from a third party, and the ability might be curtailed on some carriers.
Download management. All your downloads from your browser, email, and other apps, be viewed and controlled from one place.
Developer features
Native development. The ability to write Android programs or parts of programs isn’t new but in Android 2.3 it gets a huge boost with Release 5 of the Native Development Kit (NDK). For example you can now receive input and sensor events, produce sound, manipulate 3D graphics contexts, access assets and storage, and more all from native code. They even added a NativeActivity class that lets you write your lifecycle callbacks in native code.
JVM speed. For Java developers, 2.3 adds a number of speedups, most notably a concurrent garbage collector. According to Google garbage collection pauses will be under 3ms, which is small enough not to be noticed in a 30fps or even 60fps game. New JIT optimizations make Dalvik code run even faster than before.
Faster event distribution. In previous versions of Android, just holding your finger down on the screen would cause whatever program was running to slow down, sometimes dramatically. This is all fixed in Android 2.3.
Multimedia. Rich audio effects like reverb and headphone virtualization can be applied to local tracks or globally across multiple tracks. The platform adds built-in support for VP8/WebM video, plus AAC and AMR wideband encoding. Also, there are now official APIs for accessing the front and rear cameras. There is some limited support for extra large (tablet and TV) displays.
Near Field Communications (NFC). In Japan, NFC is a Big Deal, and the hope is that it will catch on in the rest of the world too. It has all kinds of uses, for example with the right hardware and software you could use your phone as a replacement for your credit card to make point of sale purchases. Using the NFC API apps can respond to NFC tags embedded in stockers, posters, and even other devices.

AMOLED touch screens are the latest innovation in smart phone technology and the four inch screen on the Samsung Galaxy S is one of the best examples of what can be achieved with this technology. Here we will take a look at how AMOLED screens work and see why they are so impressive when compared to alternative display technologies.
AMOLED stands for ‘Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode’. The AM is the manner in which the pixels are controlled and the OLED describes the pixel technology. LEDs are very different from LCDs (Liquid Crystal Displays) in that LCDs act as filters that require an external light source, whilst LEDs generate their own light when they are stimulated by an electric current. For many years it had been possible to only fabricate LEDs from inorganic semiconductors such as silicon and gallium nitride, but although it was known that many organic materials and organometallic molecules could produce light when electrically stimulated, producing an efficient system was not possible until recent years.
Each pixel is controlled by two thin film transistors (TFTs) which inject a current to switch it on and off and these are made by depositing polycrystalline semiconductors onto the flexible substrate that also supports the OLED. This is a high efficiency system that uses relatively low currents making it suitable for use in mobile devices. Switching speeds are also very rapid meaning that the display can be quickly refreshed.
A significant advantage of AMOLED compared to other display technologies is that the colours are very bright, the contrast is high and blacks are genuinely black (no light is emitted) rather than just dark grey as in LCDs which are always semi-transparent.
One of the early disadvantages with AMOLED displays was that they could be quite difficult to see in bright sunlight due to their reflectivity. The AMOLED screen used by Samsung in the Galaxy S is a Super AMOLED. This uses thinner layers than conventional AMOLED displays and is far more efficient. The display is brighter, the power consumption lower and the reflectivity of bright sunlight is significantly lower. Head over to phones4u today to find out how to get your samsung galaxy s.
Anybody out there amazed at exactly how good the new Samsung Galaxy mobile phones have been recently? Well so have all of us! The Samsung Galaxy S continues to be hotly tipped as being the only mobile phone which can stand up to the likes of the HTC Desire HD and also the biggy, the Apple iPhone 4 and to be completely honest, it is not too far behind just a couple of tweaks in some places then it ought to be at least on a level playing field and just recently we have heard that details are surfacing about the Galaxy’s successor. The Samsung Galaxy S2.
If the Galaxy S2 does receive the handful of adjustments that are needed then just like we said previously it’ll without a doubt be on a level playing field with the likes of the Apple iPhone 4 and also the HTC Desire HD, and judging from the early photo’s there’s a lot to go off on a looks front, with its modern and clean design and touch screen buttons it’s got a bit of serious beef with the iPhone design so Apple best be careful as the Japanese giants are pushing for a huge surge to the top level of the smart-phone charts!
If you quite fancy one of the many original Samsung Galaxy handsets you would then be best taking a look around on the high-street because there’ll more than likely be some excellent Samsung Galaxy deals about on the high-street.
Reported that Paul Thurrott last week reported that some Windows Phone 7 users were seeing unexpectedly high levels of data usage. So Microsoft is investigating the problem of Windows Phone 7 handsets which are sending large amounts of data, and opting to do so via 3G even in the presence of WiFi; the result is users burning through 2GB or more of data a month.

Every where we go these days the use of digital video surveillance systems is on the rise. From police use, to the soccer mom keeping an eye on the babysitter cameras are in a sense becoming a necessity for many. For example, if we are looking for a daycare for our children, we are going to choose the one that uses cameras or the one that does not. Of course it depends on the facility and the people running the show, but if it came down to a decision and everything matched up evenly across the board and one daycare uses cameras and the other did not choosing the one with the surveillance will most likely give us the peace of mind we and many other families are looking for. When comes to daycare for our children we do not want any kind of dispute where we are being taken advantage of and a surveillance system can eliminate any of these concerns. There has been so many cases where children are being abused and neglected by childcare providers. Also nursing homes today use camera systems to not only to protect the patients but also to protect the nursing homes too. Many times, patients are being abused and neglected in nursing homes and in the past families may have no idea or may not have the proof they need to confirm the suspicions. There are some cases where nurses or childcare providers are being falsely accused of abuse. Video systems are being used today to eliminate any confusion between provider and patients families. Also be sure to find a place that is going to protect you as an employee if you are looking to find a job in a nursing home or a daycare, video surveillance can be your best friend.
